MXR teamed up with esteemed bass wizard Ian Martin Allison to create the Bass Synth, the ultimate pedal for the bass player that wants to show those keyboard players how it’s really done. The Bass Synth features three different waveform shapes, the subtle and smooth triangle, the rich and aggressive sawtooth, and the fat and rubbery square, with the voice button allowing you to add additional harmonised oscillators for enhanced tonal power.
On its face this pedal has plenty of ways to modify the sound, with the Mix knob controlling how much of your dry signal comes through, the Sub Mix knob controlling the mix between the main synth and sub synth layers, then the Cutoff, Envelope, Resonance, and Mod knobs controlling the main sonic parameters on the synth. If that turns out to be not quite enough for you there are actually two banks of secondary parameters that can be tweaked by holding either the Voice or Shape buttons and then turning any of the knobs, all together there are actually a total of eighteen tweakable parameters, with the ability to save any synthetic delight you’ve created to one of eight presets.
For those with a degree in bottomology who need that little extra bit of control you do have the ability to plug in external control units, like a foot switcher for controlling presets or an expression pedal to control the blend on particular parameters.
 If you don’t want to get too deep into the weeds with it Ian Allison has your back and has already designed eight presets that are inspired by classic synth bass sounds like the one from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer, and Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like A Hole” just to name a few.
